Energy audit

Energy audit

Activities of ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP are from the very beginning focused on providing first class consulting and guidance especially in the field of power engineering and living environment.

Energy audit

Energy audits (EA) represent a tool to achieve energy and cost savings. EA is a systematic procedure to obtain adequate information about the initial state of technical equipment and buildings, which consumes energy.
EA is used to identify and design cost-effective energy savings opportunities. The output of energy audit is a written report. The essential aim of EA is obtain information on a particular energy system. Information includes data about the method and efficiency of energy use by the system. The most important is determine the level of energy losses and show the potential energy savings, during an EA is created . Energy audit is therefore an objective analysis of the production and energy uses, lead to maximum effect by setting options in the target (future) state.
Besides the fact we balance the purchase, transformation and distribution of all media, we have to review the whole system and we propose measures for cost optimization of the whole cycle as well.

Legislation scope

Energy audits according to the new Act no. 321/2014 of Coll. on energy efficiency as amended (valid from the 1st of January, 2014) are no longer mandatory exclusively for industrial and agricultural sector, but for all large-scale enterprises meeting criteria according to conditions stated within the quoted Act. The methodology and the process of energy audit procedure as well as the content of energy audit report are stipulated by Decree no.179/2015 of Coll. by Ministry of Economy of Slovak Republic.
Information regarding criteria extracted from the quoted Act, which state types of enterprises involved  is shown below.

Large-scale enterpriseis obligated to provide the execution of:
Energy audit according to Act no. 321/2014 at least once in every 4 years
or
Energy audit, which is a part of established certified energy management system or environmental management system.

What is a large-scale enterprise?

Using the definition of micro, small and medium business companies, we are able to stipulate the following characteristics of a large-scale enterprise. A company is a large-scale enterprise, if any of the following is met:
- a company with 250 or more employees
- a company with annual turnover of more than € 50 million or
- total annual balance of more than € 43 million
- at least 25% assets or votes are directly or indirectly under mutual or individual control of one or more public authorities

Energy audit execution deadline

Every large enterprise, which was established or became a large enterprise before the Act no. 321/2014 came into force, is obligated to perform energy audit before the 5th of December, 2015 according to section 14, paragraph 1 of the quoted Act.

Types of energy audits

Complex energy audit

Complex energy audit includes total balances, purchase, transformation, distribution and consumption of all energy media, the assessment of the system, propositions of the measures for cost optimization of the whole cycle to ensure reliability of energy suplly.

Objective energy audit

Objective energy audit is focused only on selected area (e.g. heat production, heat consumption, heat consumption in technology, compensation of electricity consumption, reassessment the price list of rates the purchase energy carries etc.)

Special energy audit

Special energy audit is focused on the preparation of documents for the rationalization implementation projects in the field of energy, including a proposal for a financing.

Forms of energy audits

Short-term (framework)

It aims to examine the device power system (production, distribution, energy use) in a short time (about 3 days) and  in the very first step set the opportunities for energy saving.

Long-term (complex)

It presents detailed evaluation of possible savings based on detailed knowledge of the state of energy in use. In the resulting solutions and proposals for the implementation are also included long-term measures that would not be resolved. It means that using the results referred in the audit, you can create a project on complex energy rationalization system. Support tool for long-term energy audit is an energy management system - Monitoring & Targeting to help you verify the savings realized energy savings measures.
