Energy audit
EA is used to identify and design cost-effective energy savings opportunities. The output of energy audit is a written report. The essential aim of EA is obtain information on a particular energy system. Information includes data about the method and efficiency of energy use by the system. The most important is determine the level of energy losses and show the potential energy savings, during an EA is created . Energy audit is therefore an objective analysis of the production and energy uses, lead to maximum effect by setting options in the target (future) state.
Legislation scope
Energy audits according to the new Act no. 321/2014 of Coll. on energy efficiency as amended (valid from the 1st of January, 2014) are no longer mandatory exclusively for industrial and agricultural sector, but for all large-scale enterprises meeting criteria according to conditions stated within the quoted Act. The methodology and the process of energy audit procedure as well as the content of energy audit report are stipulated by Decree no.179/2015 of Coll. by Ministry of Economy of Slovak Republic.
Information regarding criteria extracted from the quoted Act, which state types of enterprises involved is shown below.
Large-scale enterpriseis obligated to provide the execution of:
Energy audit according to Act no. 321/2014 at least once in every 4 years
or
Energy audit, which is a part of established certified energy management system or environmental management system.
What is a large-scale enterprise?
Using the definition of micro, small and medium business companies, we are able to stipulate the following characteristics of a large-scale enterprise. A company is a large-scale enterprise, if any of the following is met:
- a company with 250 or more employees
- a company with annual turnover of more than € 50 million or
- total annual balance of more than € 43 million
- at least 25% assets or votes are directly or indirectly under mutual or individual control of one or more public authorities
Energy audit execution deadline
Every large enterprise, which was established or became a large enterprise before the Act no. 321/2014 came into force, is obligated to perform energy audit before the 5th of December, 2015 according to section 14, paragraph 1 of the quoted Act.

Glossary
a) large-scale enterprise – a company, which by definition is not micro, small or medium business
b) public authority – public procurer according to exclusive law
c) energy distributor – distribution system operator, distribution network operator or certified heat distribution entity
d) energy supplier– electricity supplier, who delivers electricity to end customer or
natural gas supplier, who delivers natural gas to end customer or heat supplier, who delivers heat or DHW (heat in the form of DHW) to end customer
e) final customer– end customer of electricity, natural gas or heat
f) reference final customer – final customer having reference consumption
g) final consumer– final customer of heat or electricity, who utilises the delivered energy exclusively for their own consumption, while not selling any portion of the delivered energy in any form to third parties or;
final customer of natural gas, who utilises the delivered energy exclusively for their own consumption, while not selling any portion of the delivered energy in any form to third parties.
